Gossip from Cuepoint

We´re hearing some nice rumors lately. One is that Stockholm will have a siick summer party prior to the princess birthday, Aviici is confirmed for his first gig in Sweden at this event.

And in March we are doing a new interview with Sebastien Leger, at a big nice venue in the US.

Stayed tuned for more news from us.

Exclusive interview with Daryl McCulley

daryl-mcculley-2

Daryl McCulley is a DJ/Producer born in the UK. He was originally in to the harder side of dance music and, after a few years developing his skills behind the decks, landed his first gig aged 16. Soon after he picked up gigs at various events and even started his own bi-weekly night along with a close friend. During this time he played at venues with big names including the late, great Tony De Vit and John ‘oo’ Fleming.

Daryl has now also turned his hand to production, and after time honing his skills, he has tracks signed with worldwide support from big names like Hernan Cattaneo and, more recently, prime-time plays on BBC Radio 1 by Judge Jules.

Make sure to visit him play @ Solidaritet this Friday, in Stockholm Sweden. He´s worth the effort ;).

When and why did you start to create electronic music?

I only started making music just over a year ago. I have always wanted to make music although due to living abroad in different countries and being constantly on the move, now has been the first time where I have been able to settle and concentrate on production.

Which peers currently inspire you?

There are so many great Artists and Producers out there who I find inspiration from. Sebastien Leger is a great producer who has been around a long time and developed his own style. James Holden is definitely an inspiration as I find his productions pretty mind-blowing and also something that can be listened to outside a club environment as well.

What describes Daryl music?

I think melody would describe my music best.

What production gear do you use?

Mainly Ableton Live 8, Yamaha HS80 Monitors, Axiom 49 Midi Controller, Edirol UA-25X and a lot of VST’s.

Have your sound evolved since you started?

Every day I learn new techniques which I try to utilize in my productions so I would say my sound is constantly evolving.

Will we see new tunes from you arise to the surface?

Yes, my second release ‘Alectrona’ was released on the 12th of February on Beatport. I have another track called ‘Sirens’ which will be out on the 1st of March and I’ve just finished a remix for Sonny Wharton’s label which is scheduled for release on the 5th of April. I also have some real exciting collaborations and tracks I’m currently working on which I hope to have out before the summer.

What is your experience about night clubs in the Nordic region?

Always a great atmosphere with great people in most of the places I have visited. Since being here I have met some good friends around the club circuit.

Do you have a favourite venue?

In Stockholm I would have to say Solidaritet and also F12 in the summer. Outside of Stockholm I would have to mention Pluto in Västerås which whenever I have played, has had a great crowd who know their
music and are always up for a party.

Biggest moment in your career?

Hopefully that is still to come but playing at ‘Privilege’ in Ibiza has to be a highlight.

Can you recommend a track that will put the dance floor on fire?

Christian Smith and Reset Robot – Air Miles (2000 and one & DJ Madskillz Remix)

What is your recipe to become even more known in this industry in 2010?

I’m just going to keep doing what I love doing and see where it goes from there.
